Mike Presswood, who has served the City of Blue Ridge in its police department for 28 years, was honored last Thursday, May 13, with a retirement dinner at the Circle J Steakhouse.
A large crowd, including city officials and fellow officers, gathered to say goodbye to Presswood who began his career as a patrolman. He advanced through the ranks, serving as assistant chief for many years, and most recently serving as acting chief while Chief Johnny Scearce recovers from a long illness.
It was Scearce who was on hand to present Presswood a plaque of appreciation.
Looking back over the last 28 years, Scearce said of Presswood, “He was with me through some tough times.”
The chief described the retiring officer as a “life-long friend” who has served the city well. “He’s going to be missed,” Scearce said.
Presswood expressed thanks for his career with the police department. “I appreciate the support and leadership Johnny has shown during those years,” he said.
And while he is looking forward to retirement, Presswood said, “I will miss serving the citizens of Blue Ridge.”
