The Blue Ridge Council’s special called meeting for Thursday, November 12, was canceled by Mayor Donna Whitener who said she feared a quorum would not attend.
Councilwoman Robbie Cornelius was out of commission on vacation while Councilman Mike Panter was unable to attend due to illness.
Whitener advised earlier that day that the meeting was canceled, but Assistant City Clerk Christina Mortimer later advised it was back on.
After reviewing Georgia’s Sunshine Laws regarding open meetings, Whitener didn’t feel the council could legally move forward with a meeting considering she had called it off earlier.
Due to the cancellation, the council was unable to vote on the city's millage rate, which has been on meeting agendas four times. This again delays this year's tax bills.
The next regularly scheduled council meeting is Tuesday, December 8, at City Hall at 5 p.m.
