According to Mike Weinroth of the Jewish Congregation of Blue Ridge, plans to revitalize the Daffodil Garden next to the children’s playground in the downtown Blue Ridge city park have been promised by the city.
Weinroth addressed the crowd gathered Sunday, November 28, for the first night of Hanukkah Menorah lighting with a message on the project. “I think we are going to see a huge improvement,” Weinroth said.
The Daffodil Garden was originally dedicated in November of 2013 as a memorial to the 1.5 million child victims of the Holocaust.
In 2016, the garden and stone plaque were relocated when the children’s park was expanded and shifted.
According to Weinroth, the stone plaque about the Daffodil Project was placed in the wrong place and is hard to see. He said the revitalization will include moving the stone as well as adding more plant material and a walkway.
Blue Ridge Mayor Donna Whitener has said since that efforts are underway to fix the garden. She said new bulbs were suppose to arrive in October, but she has not seen them.
