Jerry Whitehead presented 2020 Silver Beaver Award

Jerry Whitehead, of Blue Ridge, is the recipient of the 2020 Silver Beaver Award.

Through the Boy Scouts of America, the award is nomination based and is the highest award the Scouts can bestow.

It honors “registered scouters of exceptional character,” according to their website.

Whitehead is a member of the Boy Scout Mountain District of the Northeast Georgia Council.

In 2019, Whitehead was awarded District Scouter of the Year.

After being called to serve as team captain of the Friends of Scouting 10 years ago, Whitehead formed a team that has met the fundraising goal for the group every year since. He later became the Mountain District chairman.

Today, he serves as chairman of Friends of Scouting and serves on the District Eagle Board for the district.

Additionally, he is a member of the Northeast Georgia Council Executive Board.

“His genuine interest of scouting is for the kids who may not have the financial means to participate in scouting,” according the Boy Scouts of America.

“He works hard to grow the scouting program in rural northeast Georgia by communicating the character and leadership building aspects of scouting with the many people he encounters through his civic and professional affiliations.”
