Holiday event vital to Family Connection funding

Fannin County Family Connection is in need of financial help, and to combine that need with kicking off the holdiay season, has scheduled an event to kick off the holiday season.

“Holiday Sip, Skate and Stroll” will be held Saturday, December 5, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and INOLA Blue Ridge.

The event will include hot chocolate or cider as guests stroll the historic grounds of INOLA’s colonial style village that showcases historic buildings found in Williamsburg, Virgina, tours of the newly renovated Wetherburn’s Tavern and chapel, and ice skating. All these events are included in tickets that are $30 for adults, $50 for two adults, or $15 each for children 17 and younger.

“Holiday Sip, Skate and Stroll” is a new addition to Family Connection fundraising efforts as the traditional “Tour of Homes” had to be canceled this year. That popular event is being replaced by a virtual tour that will showcase three homes and include a behind-the-scenes look at Family Connection. The date will be announced laer.

Sherry Morris, executive director of Family Connection, said “Holiday Sip, Skate and Stroll” is “extremely important.”

She explained that a critical operation of the organization is its food pantry. The pantry served 19,400 individuals in 2019 and is on track to serve almost 21,000 in 2020, an increase of almost ten percent.

But with this pressing need, Morris said Family Connection has recently learned a large state grant has been cut. “Now, more than ever, Fannin County Family Connection needs your financial support,” Morris said.

Besides individual ticket sales, corporate sponsorships for “Holiday Sip, Skate and Stroll” are also available.
