The Humane Society of Blue Ridge has kicked off its Healthy Pet Hero Challenge as officials hope to open the new low cost veterinary clinic next week.
Diane Basco, executive director-development for the humane society, announced the challenge that is looking for 1,000 people to sign up for a $20 recurring monthly contribution.
If this goal is reached, it will generate $240,000 a year and “provide the funds necessary to subsidize the clinic,” Basco said.
“This is how a $20 donation can make a huge difference. The law of large numbers is the key,” Basco said.
To donate, go to the humane society’s website at humanesocietyofblueridge.org, click on the orange dog bone “donate” button, and then to Healthy Pet Hero. Those who commit to the challenge will receive a Healthy Pet Hero coffee mug.
Only a few supplies, which will hopefully arrive this week, are still needed as the humane society works toward a March 27 opening.
Appointments will be scheduled next week, with the warning some may have to be rescheduled.
The low cost clinic is accepting applications and all the details appear on the website under Healthy Pet Clinic.
The clinic has a full-time veterinarian, a medical support team and a clinic manager. It will be open four days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Only healthy pets will be treated, and the clinic will not take sick or injured pets. Services will include spay/neuter services, wellness exams and vaccines.
