Hamilton hopes lives enriched for many years

West Fannin Elementary School teacher Cayley Hamilton’s partnership with Snack in a Backpack has led her to create a non-profit that will enrich the lives of children in Fannin County for years to come.

As part of her graduate school studies, Hamilton chose to partner with the local Snack in a Backpack for a service project. She set a goal to “Feed and Read Fannin” with the intention that every child in the program would receive a new book of their very own, chosen especially for them by her, based on their grade and their reading level.

“The results have been more than she hoped for,” Snack in a Backpack Executive Director Debby Beck said. “This week 250 books will be distributed and sent home to each child who receives ‘Snack in a Backpack.’ Thanks are due to donations made from all over the country.”

As a result of the success she’s seen through the program this year, knowing the potential educational impact for children in the future, Hamilton has decided to turn the project into a non-profit that will be continued annually.

“[It] will enrich the literary lives of the children in the area in the years to come,” Beck said.

Hamilton’s wish for the recipients of her books, this year and for many years to come, can be best shared by the frontispiece in each book, which reads, “This is just the beginning…a special piece of literature picked out just for you to add to your library! Never stop turning over the next page in your life!”
