Fannin County Development Authority Director Christie Gribble’s request to apply for a grant for the Green Creek Trail Project and a variance request for THAW, LLC to place eight more units at 55 Cherrywood Court were both approved at the Fannin County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, October 26.
Gribble originally brought the Green Creek Trail Project to the board at the October 12 meeting, requesting approval to apply for a grant through the federal Recreational Trails Program that would improve and make accessible Green Creek Trail.
Both Post commissioners and the chairman said they received many calls about the project between meetings.
“I think it would be a good thing for our citizens and our tourists and hopefully open the door for us to do more with the forestry services,” Post Two Commissioner Glenn Patterson said.
“I feel the same way as Mr. Patterson,” Post One Commissioner Johnny Scearce said. “There is a lot of Fannin Countians that go out there and use that and it’s helping them health-wise.”
After the motion was passed, Patterson brought up a concern someone had informed him about people using the area after hours to “drink a few” and littering. Hensley mentioned he will reach
out to the Fannin County sheriff as well as the Forest Service about the usage of the gate.
Under new business, a variance to build eight more units at 55 Cherrywood Court was introduced and passed.
Patterson said he went with Fannin County Building Inspector Keith Nicholson to check out the property. He said there was plenty of parking and the area was very level. “We do need this type of residency in Fannin County,” Patterson said. Patterson also stated he was concerned that the sewer and water being close to the city limits there might be an issue but was reassured by Nicholson there is none.
