Summer Bash Saturday at FCHS
Free food, sports physicals, immunizations, haircuts, school supplies and hygiene kits will all be part of the Fannin County Schools Summer Bash this Saturday, July 9, at Fannin County High School.
The event begins at 9 a.m. in the new gym and continues until 3 p.m. with food from a cookout being served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The entire School Bash is open to all students in grades Pre-K through twelfth grade
Sheena Rymer, licensed clinical social worker, first told school board members about Summer Bash at their June 9 meeting. The idea began with an offer of free haircuts.
Since then, she, Social Worker Tara Cantrell and Director of Student Services Shannon Miller have been preparing for the event that has received an outpouring of community support.
All three praised that support. “We’re so blessed,” Cantrell said of the community.
Dental and vision screenings will be offered in addition to the sports physicals.
The required immunizations for rising high school juniors and middle school seventh graders will be offered.
Bounce houses will be set up outside the gym for the younger children to enjoy.
The Sweet Shoppe will be providing cupcakes and gift certificates for several local businesses will be given away.
Students must be accompanied by a parent.
“It’s all free thanks to community support,” Rymer said.
The Summer Bash will take place rain or shine.
