Fannin County Board of Commissioners approved the financial year 2020 Budget Adjustments and Financial Statement drafts during the Tuesday, September 28 meeting.
After working with auditors for several months, the county’s expenditures were a little more than what was originally budgeted, and an adjustment was recommended by the auditors based on their findings.
Post One Commissioner Johnny Scearce inquired if this has happened before. Post Two Commissioner Glenn Patterson explained that it is a common occurrence, and County Clerk and Assistant Finance Director Sherri Walker clarified that it is a formality. “It does not mean the numbers were good or bad, just that there are some adjustments needed to the budget to get everything in line,” Walker said.
The auditors will be attending one of the meetings in October to present their findings to the board and Fannin County residents. According to Commissioner Chairman Jamie Hensley, it is looking like the second meeting of the month. Agendas for commissioners meetings can be found on their website and are posted 24 hours prior to the meeting.
Also during the meeting, variances were approved for two Fannin residents. Phillip and Liese Connell were approved to build a deck/carport over an existing concrete slab five feet from their property line, and Rick and Cynthia Worrell were approved to place a house eight feet from the property line, which is 20 feet from Lakeshore Drive and 30 feet from the centerline. Both couples presented the board with plans and letters of approval from neighbors.
