The last Friday of September, 2019, Fannin County Family Connection was busy moving into their new facility. This year, on the last Friday of September, September 25, the organization held a lunch in honor of the volunteers who’ve spent countless hours helping the residents of the county.
“We couldn’t have done it without you guys,” Executive Director Sherry Morris said to volunteers. “This day is in honor of you.”
The facility was bought by a donor last year and is to be donated in full to the organization this week.
“We’ve had no time to breathe,” Morris said to guests.
Morris reflected on how the organization moved into their current building, got everything set up in October, and then their “busy season” began in November.
“Middle February we were thinking, ‘Ah, we’re gonna be able to have a little bit of a break.’ COVID hit, we had a 40% increase overnight,” she said.
“You guys were here to help us with that. And then just when we thought, ‘Okay, this is going to level out,’ there was some issues with placement for the Summer Meals Program. It wound up here, so then our summer was busy, busy, busy.”
With that said, she added, that their typical busy season is returning in the coming weeks.
“We hope you are thankful for all that you have and all that you’ve been blessed with because I know when I come to work everyday, and I work with the clients that come here, I realize just how fortunate my life is, so thank you so much for coming. Thank you for being here.”
The organization serves the community by providing the food pantry and free clothing closet; however, they can often be found lending a hand whenever needed for the citizens of Fannin County.
Family Connection’s facility is located at 501 Fannin Industrial park, Blue Ridge.
