The annual Miner’s Homecoming celebration gets into full swing for the weekend starting this Friday night, June 25. The lineup of events continues until a huge fireworks show closes out the festivities Saturday night. Here’s the lineup:
FRIDAY, JUNE 25
•7 p.m. Gospel Music Night gets underway featuring Kenny O’Neal and the O’Neal Family with other special guests on the W.R. Lee Stage behind Glenn Springs Holdings;
SATURDAY, JUNE 26
•All day enjoy free admission to the Ducktown Basin Museum. Director Sarah Mickens invites everyone to visit and walk through the history that created Miner’s Homecoming.
•7 a.m. until 10 a.m. All you can eat breakfast at the Ducktown Masonic Lodge, located just off Highway 68 north of Ducktown below the old Ducktown Elementary School. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Dale Ray says everyone is welcome to come out and start the day with a great breakfast.
•10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tours of the Kimsey Junior College/Ducktown Elementary School building are offered. The tours are free but donations will be accepted.
•10 a.m. The annual Patriotic Walking Parade down Main Street will start at the corner of Vine and Main. Everyone is encouraged to take part and wave the flag.
•10:15 a.m. Glenn Springs will host an outdoor open house on Main Street.
•11 a.m. The Copper Basin Shrine Club will hold the Great American Duck Race at the corner of Main and Spruce streets.
•Noon The Miners Homecoming Beauty Pageant is scheduled on the W.R. Lee Stage. Contact Cindy Davis at 423-241-2412 for information.
•2 p.m. The highly popular Copper Company Workers Reunion will begin at the Burra Burra Hoist House. All former employees of “the company” are invited to meet, greet and swap stories.
•5 p.m. Kids Alley will offer fun and games for the young folks. There is no charge.
•7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Live rock and country music featuring Haywire will fill the air from the W.R. Lee State behind Glenn Springs Holdings.
•9:30 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky over Ducktown, bringing the annual event to a close.
