Having been missing all night, Finn, a herding dog, was reunited with his owners, Kathy and Pete Kaup, with thanks to many of Fannin County’s first responders.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, Fannin County Animal Control responded to a report of a dog in a compromising position off Appalachian Highway in Blue Ridge.
This position was around 60 feet above level ground in the middle of a cliff and nearly 20 feet from the top.
With Fannin County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Animal Control and Sheriff’s Office, as well as Evolutionary K9 on the scene, Corey Shaw with EMA rappelled down the steep embankment, and Finn was rescued safely before being reunited with his owners.
Kathy Kaup said she and her family had just moved to Blue Ridge a week prior to the incident and were unaware their neighboring property dropped off so steeply.
