Sydney Criteser has been named editor of The News Observer after serving as both news editor and staff writer for the local newspaper.
In her new role, she will play a larger role in planning the overall coverage of each week’s edition of the newspaper and be in charge of planning content for the newspaper’s Welcome and Information Please magazines.
“Sydney has proven she is a capable and dedicated journalist,” Publisher Glenn Harbison said in announcing Criteser’s new role. “Most importantly, she has demonstrated that she understands the importance of accurate and fair news coverage for the communities we serve.”
Criteser has worked for the The News Observer since 2018.
“Since the day Sydney joined The News Observer in July 2018, she has worked tirelessly to understand our community and become a part of it. She cares about the people and the area The News Observer serves, and this is the kind of person we have been looking for to be the editor of your local newspaper,” Harbison said.
Criteser said, “I look forward to continuing to provide the citizens of Fannin and Polk counties with the news and information they need. I’m fortunate to be part of an awesome newspaper staff who truly care about our readers, and I know we’re going to continue to work passionately for our community.”
