Copperhill surrenders 0.64 acres in three-way split

The City of Copperhill voted to surrender several pieces of land along West Tennessee Avenue during a regular meeting of the council Monday, September 21.

The properties, located in blocks nine through 11 on the street, were surrendered to both Wayne Daniels and McCaysville Properties (Mike Galinski).

When combined, the pieces of land make up 0.64 acres.

It was voted that the property within block nine would be surrendered to Daniels.

The city requested that Daniels create a 20-foot-wide walkway to the river for the city to access, which he agreed to do.

McCaysville Properties will receive two sections within blocks 10 and 11 in exchange for a deed to the city for the pieces at the end of block 11.

The city will receive lots three and four within block 11.

The properties in question were originally sectioned off but were never “married” to any of the neighboring lots, according to Georgia-licensed attorney Lynn Doss.

When looking at the properties, they appear to be simple drainage ditches.

Alderman Tara Akins was opposed to surrendering the properties to McCaysville Properties without having them create a 20-foot walkway for the city as well.

She also insisted that they agree to have Doss draw up a deed to the city for the baseball fields on the same road in exchange for the surrendered properties.

When it came down to the vote, Akins was out numbered.

Alderman Bill Standridge was absent.

The city met twice previously to discuss the matter before taking a vote.

At the last workshop, September 16, the city agreed to surrender two pieces to McCaysville Properties, split the property in block nine with Daniels and keep the lots in block 11.
