Copperhill hires clerk, renews sheriff’s contract

The City of Copperhill met for a special called meeting Monday, October 5, to hire a new water and sewer clerk and renew their contract with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.

Alderman, with the exception of Bill Standridge who was absent, agreed to hire Theresa Harris to begin working part time as the new water and sewer clerk.

Harris is the former finance manager and loan officer at Western Finance, according to Mayor Kathy Stewart.

After going through the interview process, both Stewart and City Clerk Amber Brooks agreed that Harris would be an asset to the city.

The need to hire a new water and sewer clerk comes after the resignation of City Recorder Suzanne Hughes.

Hughes had originally planned to leave the city in August, but has stayed longer in order to allow sufficient training for new employees. Brooks, who currently acts as the water and sewer clerk as well, is currently training to take Hughes’ position.

A contract with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department was renewed.

This contract is for the 911 service and equates to $1,666.66. Alderman Tara Akins moved to increase the rate to $1,667, which passed. Akins noted that this fee was necessary even when the city had its own police department.
