Constitutional observances proclaimed in Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge Mayor Rhonda Haight signed a proclamation Tuesday, September 6, declaring that September 17 through September 23 as Constitution Week. The proclamation also sets aside this Saturday Saturday, September 17 as Constitution Day.

Daughters of the American Revolution Old Unicoi Trail Chapter member Pam Matthews and Blue Ridge Town Crier Jere McConnell were present for the signing of the proclamation.

The Old Unicoi Trail Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution is a leader in local efforts to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution and informing the people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s heritage and way of life. They influence the encouragement of the studying of the historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787.

As stated and agreed upon in the proclamation by Haight, “I ask the citizens of Blue Ridge, Georgia to read the Constitution and reaffirm their support for the ideals the Framers of the Constitution held in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties.”
