Caleb Rush Cloer is being held in the Fannin County Detention Center after allegedly stealing a car, sexually assaulting a woman then fleeing to Atlanta.
Cloer, 25, of 1135 Murphy Highway, Mineral Bluff, is charged with aggravated sodomy, felony theft by taking, misdemeanor theft by taking, obstruction of an officer, disorderly conduct, and a probation violation, according to Fannin County Sheriff’s Office records. He was denied bond by Chief Magistrate Judge Brian Jones.
Cloer’s troubles began sometime Wednesday, January 6, when he stole a car and cell phone from a residence on Murphy Highway.
That theft was reported to Fannin County dispatch at 6:45 p.m., and Deputy Sheriff Richard Gazaway was later dispatched to the scene of the theft.
At 7 p.m., Gazaway was dispatched to the report of forcible sodomy in the Marble City area.
Gazaway interviewed the adult female victim, who knew her attacker, and transported her to Fannin Regional Hospital for a medical examination.
Gazaway swore out a warrant alleging aggravated sodomy against Cloer that night.
Cloer had fled Fannin County following the alleged attack, and was arrested by the Atlanta Police Department Saturday, January 9. He was then picked up and returned to Fannin County.
