Investigators are working to identify a body recovered from Hemptown Creek behind the Bee Hive Grocery in Mineral Bluff Sunday evening, July 23.
Investigations Sergeant J.K. Davenport of the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office said Monday morning the remains had been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab. A positive identification is expected to have to be made through DNA samples.
Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan said a call came into the Fannin County 911 Center from a fisherman shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday evening. The man reported he thought he had spotted what he believed to be a body in the creek.
Callihan said the cause of death is undetermined pending the state crime lab investigation.
