No date has been set to swear him into office, but election results have been certified and Mike Panter is the new member of the Blue Ridge City Council.
Blue Ridge residents elected Panter to the Post Three council seat Tuesday, March 24.
Barbie Gerald, the city’s election superintendent, said the election results were certified Monday, March 30, and submitted to the Secretary of State.
Official results showed Panter with 64 votes, Brian Higgins with 34 and one write-in vote for Jim Robinson.
Of his election, Panter said, “I am intrigued with the opportunity to help the citizens of Blue Ridge become a better community.”
Panter has goals of expanding the city park and developing a downtown YMCA, expanding water, sewer and garbage services, cleaning up and developing affordable housing, developing parking, golf cart zoning and increasing security and downtown surveillance, according to his campaign announcement.
“I’d like to thank everybody who helped me ... all the voters of the city who voted as well as the employees of the city,” Panter said.
