Those interested in running for Blue Ridge mayor or a seat on the city council have until this Friday, August 20, by noon to qualify.
Qualifying is held at city hall, 480 West First Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day this week with a one-hour lunch break from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday, qualifying will be from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
The fee to run for mayor is $252 and $180 for each council seat.
Those interested must be a resident of the City of Blue Ridge and have held that status for 12 consecutive months, must provide the address of their residence, their profession, their desired position, a financial disclosure statement, and be qualified to vote within the city.
The seats for mayor and all five council members are up for election.
The General Election will be held Tuesday, November 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
In order to incorporate staggered terms, two seats on the council will be elected for two years, while the others will be for four years. The two, two-year terms will change to four year terms in the 2023 election.
