Blue Ridge Food Lion campaign will reach three area resources

Blue Ridge’s Food Lion customers have the opportunity to make a $5 donation to Feeding America and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank now through June 30 when visiting the store.

That food bank, in turn, helps provide food to the Fannin County Food Pantry, Copper Basin Crisis Center and We Are Polk County.

The opportunity is a campaign, Summers Without Hunger, of Food Lion’s Food Lion Feeds program.

To participate in the Summers Without Hunger campaign, customers need to take a hang tag from the display at their neighborhood Food Lion and give it to the cashier while checking out.

$5 will then be donated to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and to Feeding America.

For each donation customers make, Campbells, Hormel, Kellogg’s, Pepsi Co., Seald Sweet and Tyson will each donate one item to the food bank.

“The Feeding America network continues to experience an increase in demand for food assistance resulting from the COVID-19 crisis. We are thankful to Food Lion, its suppliers and consumers for their generous support of member food banks across the Southeast,” Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America, said.

“Their product and monetary contributions will help make a difference in the lives of families who may not know where they will find their next meal.”

$1 helps provide at least 10 meals through Feeding America on behalf of local member food banks.

Food Lion guarantees a minimum donation of $100,000 for the duration of the program.
