A suspect seen in the area of Blue Ridge Knife the morning it was burglarized has been arrested by Blue Ridge police and charged with that burglary and several other crimes.
Jonathon Allen Abercrombie, 27, of 201 Wilson Street in Blue Ridge, faces eight felony charges and two misdemeanors with more charges expected.
Abercrombie was taken into custody Tuesday, August 9, just before 2 p.m. at the tent he was living in at the end of Wilson Street by Sergeant R.T. Henry, Lieutenant Samuel Rosiles and Officer Peter Tinkham.
Blue Ridge Knife on East Main Street had been burglarized some time during the early morning hours of July 30.
Soon afterwards, Rosiles said a man had been spotted walking in the area of the business between 2 and 3 a.m. and police had a suspect in the case.
Henry said Tinkham took a warrant for Abercrombie August 7 for prowling and loitering behind Fannin Lanes in the Valley Village Shopping Center.
When the trio of officers were arresting Abercrombie, Henry said he spotted several items in plain view believed to have been stolen. He then obtained a search warrant for the tent and surrounding area.
Henry said he was able to connect Abercombie with burglaries at Blue Ridge Knife, two burglaries at Blue Ridge Coin Laundry, and breaking into a Pepsi machine in the Valley Village Shopping Center.
Abercrombie has been charged with Burglary-Smash and Grab, Theft by Taking, and Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree in connection with the Blue Ridge Knife burglary. All are felonies.
In connection with a July 18 burglary at Blue Ridge Coin Laundry, Abercrombie is charged with one felony count each of Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree. Henry said Abercrombie had broken into the coin machine and then dragged it outside the business.
Abercrombie is charged with three felonies in conjunction with a second break-in at Blue Ridge Coin Laundry August 1; Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree, and Theft by Taking.
In conjunction with breaking into the Pepsi machine, Henry said Abercrombie is charged with a Criminal Trespass felony. That incident occurred August 1.
In addition, Henry said he expects to charge Abercrombie with at least one more burglary in the Valley Village Shopping Center.
