Fannin County commissioners are expected to approve a plan for a new swimming pool and splashpad when they convene August 8 for their next regular meeting.
The bid opening for new facilities at the Fannin County Recreation Complex in Blue Ridge was held at the commission’s meeting Tuesday, July 25.
Three bids were received:
•Georgia Mountain Pool Company, $3,838,000;
•Integrated Properties, LLC, $3,697,000; and
•Cooper & Company General Contractors, $3,990,000.
Two alternates are offered with each bid, which could potentially lower the cost, but downsize the original plans.
Recreation Director Eddie O’Neal asked commissioners to table the bids so they could be reviewed to make sure they meet all the necessary specifications. Commissioners Chairman Jamie Hensley and Post commissioners Johnny Scearce and Glenn Patterson agreed unanimously.
O’Neal also unveiled the plans for the new pool and splashpad.
The poll is basically an “L” shape with four 25-yard lap lanes in one end, complete with a drop slide, and a 3,600 square foot swimming area in the other. The swimming area includes an underwater bench.
The splashpad covers 1,700 square feet and is enclosed by its own fence.
The design for the complex includes a pool house, mechanical room and potential playground expansion.
The pool and accompanying facilities will be paid for with a combination of Tourism Product Development money generated through the county’s Hotel/Motel Tax and recreation funds designated through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
