Standing firmly on the long-time importance of Blue Ridge to her and her family, Angie Arp has announced her candidacy for Post 2 on the city council in the November 2 General Election.
Arp said, “I have lived in Blue Ridge for almost 50 years, along with my children, father, grandfather, grandmother and other family members. I now have a 10-month-old granddaughter who is the fifth generation family member who will also grow up in Blue Ridge.
“I am concerned about the uncontrolled growth and direction of Blue Ridge. I have the time, knowledge and experience to be able to do things that will be good for this city.”
Arp believes her extensive business experience will be an asset to directing the future of Blue Ridge. She began working with employees and consumers when she became manager of the Goody’s Department Store at the age of 20. Since then, she has managed several different businesses including hotels, convenience stores, and outdoor recreation services. Currently, she employs from 35 to 45 people in different jobs.
The previous city council assigned Arp to oversee the design, planning and completion of the East Main Street project and the new downtown playground. She is currently a member of the Fannin County Water Authority the Blue Ridge Planning Commission.
Arp said, “I’m a hard worker with goals, management skills and a vision. As a business-minded person, I understand the importance of managing money and keeping low.
“I also understand the importance of maintaining and upgrading the things we use in our daily lives, such as streets, water and sewer,” Arp said.
“I think it is imperative that citizens elect city council members that will represent the citizens, that will be leaders and not followers, and that will work with other council members for the common good of Blue Ridge and those that live here. If elected, I promise to live up to these ideals,” Arp said.
