Fannin County’s North Georgia Community Action, Inc. Service Center is currently taking applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program for homebound and elderly households throughout the month of November.
The program assists low-income households with a one-time payment to help offset the cost of heating their homes. Checks are made out to home energy suppliers and will not be issued until North Georgia Community Action, Inc. receives funds from Georgia’s Department of Human Services.
All households participating in the program must meet the income criteria, be responsible for paying the cost of energy for home heating directly to the supplier and be United States citizens or immigrants admitted to the United States for lawful, permanent residence.
Homebound households are defined as a household in which every member is confined to the home as a result of medical conditions or disabilities.
Elderly households are those in which every member is 65 or older, or if anyone in the household is under 18 years old, all other household members are 65 or older.
Assistance is available while funds last and is “first come, first serve.”
Call Fannin’s Community Service Center at 706-632-2854 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, until November 30, to receive instructions on how to apply and submit necessary documents.
Documents that will be required are the applicant’s most recent heating bill, electric bill, proof of household income, proof of valid Social Security number, proof of citizenship with valid picture identification and/or alien status.
Elderly households must also provide proof of age for all household members.
Applicants are urged to continue calling until they reach someone, as messages will not be returned, and they may be assisting other applicants at that time.
All Community Service Centers are closed to the public due to COVID-19.
