Life Care Center of Copper Basin, located in Ducktown, has revealed that eight associates and 21 residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
Seven of the eight employees are currently recovering at home.
The first associate to test positive has met the CDC’s guidelines for returning to work and has since returned, according to Executive Director Josh Lee.
Two of the positive residents are currently in a hospital; however, the majority of positive residents are asymptomatic, he said.
After discovering that several employees had contracted the virus, Life Care Center began testing residents.
Residents were tested on July 15, and those tests later revealed that 21 had come back positive.
The facility re-tested residents who had negative results on July 22.
Life Care officials were still waiting on those results as of Friday, July 24.
“We have a COVID unit in our building to separate our positive residents from our negative residents,” Lee said. “We are continuing to communicate with our residents, their families and our associates regarding the testing and results.”
