Shots: Health dept. offers vaccines
Vaccines still offered at Fannin health dept.
Although the North Georgia Health District’s Annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic has come and gone, folks are still able to get vaccines at the Fannin County Health Department.
Nurses at the drive-thru clinic administered 110 vaccines to those who came by the Blue Ridge Farmer’s Market Tuesday, October 8.
The clinic also provided free COVID-19 test kits to anyone who was interested. Those who missed it and would like to get vaccinated against this year’s flu strain are encouraged to make an appointment by calling the health department at 706-632-3023.
The vaccine is recommended to anyone six months or older.
This year’s vaccine should protect against three different flu viruses: A(H1N1), A(H3N2) and influenza B/Victoria lineage.
A high-dose vaccine is available to people 65 and older, who are more at risk.
“This increased risk is partly due to changes in immune defenses with age,” Public Information Officer Jennifer King said in a press release.
“People 65 years and older bear the most significant burden of severe flu disease and related hospitalizations and deaths.”
