Multiple ideas were discussed to improve the Loving Road intersection with Highway 515 when representatives of Fannin County and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) met last week.
GDOT engineers will now conduct a traffic/speed study to determine if the intersection can be made safer.
Besides this engineering study, Fannin County Commission Chairman Jamie Hensley said GDOT began work immediately to improve the warning light system at the intersection.
Hensley asked GDOT officials to look at possible safety improvements following a July 4 crash that claimed the life of an 11-year-old child and seriously injured three other people.
The intersection has been the site of several crashes since the four-lane highway was first built, several of those crashes resulting in fatalities.
Hensley said he was told by GDOT officials “we’ve got to look at everything” to determine what, and if, any changes can or should be made.
Hensley said representatives held “a pretty productive meeting” when discussing the intersection, as well as other situations with area state highways.
