Mr. Carlisle A. Quantrell Jr. passed away January 18, 2022, after a brief illness.

Survivors include daughter, Gilonne Quantrell (Peter Roberts); grandchildren, Bianca Roberts (Clay Williamson) and Timothy Roberts; and wife, Theresa Cromeans.

Mr. Quantrell was born November 20, 1933, and grew up in Copperhill, the son of Eunice Gilliam Quantrell and Carlisle A. Quantrell Sr. He attended Emory University before joining the U.S. Armed Forces where he served as an interpreter for the NSA. While in Germany from 1955 to 1958, he met and married Bianca Rodert. They returned to Atlanta where their daughter Gilonne Quantrell was born.

He completed his bachelor’s and Juris Doctor (JD) degrees from Emory University in 1965. Mr. Quantrell worked in banking and insurance positions while attending law school. After completion of his JD he worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) before returning to banking and insurance positions. His last employment was at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where he worked in data management. It was at CDC that he met his wife, Theresa Cromeans.

As a child, Carlisle enjoyed hiking and fishing in the Georgia mountains with his father. He and Theresa frequently hiked in North Georgia and the Smokey Mountains and enjoyed Southwestern trips. For a slower pace, they enjoyed their cabin near Ellijay, Georgia. He sang in the church choir with his parents in Copperhill and studied voice for several years leading to his music appreciation.

He was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, of Atlanta, for many years. He especially enjoyed activities with children in the family; first his daughter, later his grandchildren and also with children in the extended family. He liked all animals, wild and domesticated, especially cats. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge at a later date with internment at Crestlawn Cemetery (Cochran Funeral Home, of McCaysville).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, of Blue Ridge, The National Wildlife Federation or the Humane Society.
