Mrs. Dorothy Cecelia Puckett Cox, better known as “Dottie,” age 89, of Blue Ridge, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at her home in Blue Ridge.

She was born in Flushing, Queens, New York, to the late Robert Gaither and Angelina Marie Pelosi Puckett.

Dottie began her working career as a switchboard operator for the New York Telephone Company. She then worked for 32 years for Levi Strauss and Company and most of her years of service were in the office/payroll department. After retirement she was the Levi Strauss and Company Retiree Coordinator. Dottie then worked for N&N Florist for several years before her final retirement.

She was a longtime member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church and served with the Fannin County Brain Injury Support Group.

Dottie was the sweetest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sibling and friend. She loved her children, her family, word search puzzles, her cat, Kitts, and traveling. Dottie was very giving and compassionate and will be missed by so many families and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Oscar Cox; sons, David Lee Cox; and infant, William Robert Cox; grandson, Lance Warren; son-in-law, Richard Warren; siblings, Robert “Bobby” Lewis Puckett, Arlene Louise Bilodeau and Joseph Anthony Puckett.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Rosemary Warren, Michael and Denise Cox, all of Blue Ridge, Daniel and Carole Cox, of Talking Rock, Georgia, Joey and Beverly Cox, of Epworth, and Karri and Justin Bowen, of Port Charlotte, Florida; daughter-in-law, Brenda Cox, of Blue Ridge; sisters, Jacqueline Futterer, of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Barbara Wild, of Centennial, Colorado; grandchildren, Steve Yocum, Christy and Shane Barton, Tara Warren, Nathan and Jessica Cox, Kayla and Jason Lunsford, Kim and Wesley Mullinax, Kelli Cox, Christopher and Jaclynn Cox, Crystal and Michael Stauf, Caitlan and Kirk Raffield, Marrissa Cox, Bailey Cox, Rylan Patterson, Sydnie Cochran and Ty Bowen; great-grandchildren, Chris Barton, Kassen Albreckt, Shealynn Warren, Ian Yocum, Hazel Cox, Natalie Cox, Asa Lunsford, Ivy Lunsford, Dakota Davenport, Joshua Cox, Gabriel Cox, Sophia Cox, Camryn Tkacsik, Joley Tkacsik, Hadley Stauf, Ryan Stauf, Ansley Raffield and Koen Kirkland; great-great-grandchildren, Blaire, Ava, Liam and Maeve; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and loving friends.

Funeral services for family only were conducted Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at 11 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel in Blue Ridge, with Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Music was provided by Robert Buchanan and the Sugar Creek Singers.

Following the service, extended family and friends were invited to attend the graveside services in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery at noon. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as pallbearers: Joey Cox, Daniel Cox, Mike Cox, Nathan Cox, Christopher Cox and Jason Lunsford.

The following gentlemen were selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: Randy Epperson, Jimmy Cox, Larry Cox, Kirk Raffield, Kyle Kirkland, Mike Stauf, Josh Cox and Gabriel Cox. The family received friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Due to current health concerns, the family requested that those in attendance wear facial coverings and practice social distancing.
