Another stellar basketball season ended for the Fannin County Lady Rebels Friday night, February 27, when they traveled to Eatonton to face the Putnam County Lady War Eagles.
The two teams squared off in the Sweet 16 round of the Georgia High School Association Girls State Basketball Championships with sights set on the Elite 8 round.
Fannin County was coming off a huge come from behind win over Pepperell, but could not maintain the momentum, falling 75-36 to their hosts.
The Lady Rebels entered post season rankings with a Number 9 power ranking while Putnam County came in at Number 8. This threw the two teams into the same eight-team playoff brackets.
However, going into the post season, both had been ranked much higher in power rankings, which would have put them in different brackets.
The Lady Rebels finished the season 25-4 and winners of the regular season A D1 Region 7 championship.
This year’s team included three seniors, Reese Lewis, Avi Ethington, and Maggie Ledford.
