Five individuals and a basketball team were announced as the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame inductees for the Class of 2026 Friday night, February 4.
Coach Chad Cheatham Vicky Price Baliles, Nancy Querry Stepp, Tyler McClure, Peyton Satterfield, and the 1946-’47 Fannin County High School girls basketball team were named.
Coach Cheatham has just finished his eighth season as head coach of the Fannin County High School Rebels football team.
Among his accomplishments were 61 wins, the most in Fannin County history; playoff appearances every season, and GACA Coach of the year three times.
Price-Baliles was a standout of the six-girl basketball era during her four seasons at West Fannin High School from 1962-’66.
Starting at forward all four years, she scored more than 900 points and was named Most Valuable Player during her senior year. She was selected to the Region 3AA All-Tournament Team in 1966.
Querry Stepp played at Epworth High School from 1953-1955, leading the team to the Fannin County Chammpionship in 1955.
She played her junior and senior seasons, 1955-’57 at West Fannin High School where she averaged more than 20 points per game each season.
McClure was a two-sport letterman in baseball and basketball from 2007 to 2011.
During the 2011 baseball season, he was the Spike Award recipient and had a .493 batting average. He went on to play at Chattanooga State Community College and Georgia State University.
Satterfield, a multi-sport athlete, dominated the gridiron for the FCHS Rebels from 2010-2014.
He recorded 2,839 rushing yards on 364 carries and 1,265 receiving yards on 58 receptions. He was named First Team All Region 7AAA in 2013.
The 1946-’47 Fannin County High School girls basketball team had one of the greatest post season runs in Fannin County history.
The team won the Ninth District North Division with tournament wins over Ellijay and Jasper, then defeated Cumming and Winder to claim the overall Ninth District title.
In the Class B State Tournament, they defeated Hawkinsville, Soperton and Colquitt to reach the title game.
