The 8-2 Fannin County High School Rebels flag footballers had an easy time defeating the winless Dalton Academy Pumas 41-0 in Dalton November 13 and found a defensive battle with Heritage the same day. They came out on top of that one 12-6.
Against Dalton Academy, it was a pretty easy game. Fannin’s defense dominated Dalton from the first drive. MacKenzie Duvall returned Dalton’s opening drive punt for 10 yards. Fannin drove the ball 42 yards on four plays. The drive included a four-yard run by Annaleigh Cheatham , and two passes from Kendall Gaddis to Ayla Walton for six and 18 yards. The touchdown came on a 10 yard direct snap to Lynnex Patterson. Cheatham scored the extra point. Fannin led 7-0.
After another Dalton punt, Fannin scored again. This drive featured a Bridgett Allen seven-yard punt return, a seven-yard run by Cheatham and a 33-yard touchdown pass from Gaddis to Duvall. Lexi Gravley scored the extra point. Fannin led 14-0.
Fannin led 21-0 after it’s next drive. The drive included an eight-yard Gaddis pass to Gravley and a four yard direct snap touchdown by Cheatham. Gaddis threw to Walton for the extra point.
Fannin led 27-0 at halftime after scoring again on a five-yard direct snap to Cheatham. The drive featured completed passes from Gaddis to Patterson for 16, two and 18 yards.
The fourth touchdown for Fannin came on a 14-yard rush by Cheatham after Fannin drove for 66 yards on 10 plays. It featured a 23-yard run by Patterson early in the drive. and a 15-yard reception by Walton. Cheatham provided the extra-point conversion.
Fannin’s last score came on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Gaddis to Walton. The drive was eight plays and 54 yards. It started on an interception by Allen moments earlier after she dove for the tackle on a Dalton receiver who was headed for the end zone. The Fannin touchdown drive featured a Gaddis pass to Patterson for 31-yards. Gravley scored the extra point.
Against Heritage, Fannin scored early, but found a defense battle for most of the game. Fannin’s score came on a 76-yard drive on five plays. The score was on a four-yard keeper by Gaddis. Fannin led 6-0 at halftime.
Heritage punted three times in the first half. Allen intercepted a Heritage pass to stop a drive.
Fannin had a 40-yard drive cut short before rebounding with a touchdown late by way of an interception by Adia Galloway. The touchdown was on a pass from Cheatham to Gravley for nine yards. Heritage would score with seconds to go, but Fannin sealed the win.
