“Penrawl” James Hoyt Cavender, age 92, of Copperhill, passed away at his home Thursday, April 22, 2021. 

Hoyt was born July 25, 1928, in Turtletown, to the late B.H. Cavender and Emma Hughes Cavender. He worked as a miner for the Tennessee Copper Company for 38 years and worked for the City of Ducktown until his retirement. Hoyt was an avid coon hunter, gardener, and he was known as a hard worker with the nickname “Honest Hoyt.” He was of the Baptist faith. Hoyt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jewel Cole Cavender; and daughter, Janice Bennie.

 He is survived by his daughters, Deborah (Roger) Hall of Ducktown and Erica (David Green) Cavender of Ducktown; sister, Corrine Johnson of Chatsworth, Georgia; grandchildren, David (Brianne) Jones, Dana Jones, Jamie Cavender, Jaclyn Russell and RJ Cavender; great-grandchildren, Devin Jones, Leela Russell and Daniel Russell;  and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 25, 2021, at 2 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Reid officiating. Music was provided by Janice Reid. 

Interment followed at Crestlawn Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Ben Jory, Travis Jory, Tyler Jory, Alan Watts, Mickey Taylor and Tim Davis. Honorary pallbearers were David Love, Mike and Mary Lou Davis, Tyler and Hannah Ramsey, Rylan Ramsey, Sydney and Sharon Jory, LC Newman, Bob Prince, Doug Collins and the employees of the City of Ducktown.
