Maggie Ledford scored 20 points and Reese Lewis added 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Fannin County Lady Rebels defeated Copper Basin, 62-46, Saturday, December 20, in the Piedmont Holiday Classic tournament at Gilmer County High School.
The Lady Rebels built a 9-1 lead before Basin’s Kloie Ballew hit a jumper at 3:12 to make the score 9-3 in the first quarter. The Lady Rebels led 15-7 at the buzzer.
The second quarter was the best for Fannin County as they outscored Copper Basin 24-4 and had five assists. Basin’s scoring came from two free throws from Cora Kimsey and a Kendra Deal field goal. The Lady Rebels led by 28 points, 39-11, at the half.
Basin came out in the third quarter with an 11-point run through the first five minutes behind Ballew, Kimsey and Alexis Hyatt, with the Lady Rebels still holding a commanding 46-26 lead at the buzzer.
Basin paced the fourth period 20-16.
The Lady Rebels controlled the paint throughout the game behind Lewis’ 11. They also passed the ball well with 15 assists on 23 made baskets. Izzie Jabaley led the team with eight assists. The Lady Rebels blocked five shots in the game led by Lewis with three.
Jabaley added nine points, Avi Ethington had six, Toccoa Hampton and Brooklyn Owenby put up four each, and Albany Cole had two points.
Alexis Hyatt finished the night with 18 points for Copper Basin followed by Kimsey with 11 points, Ballew with 13 points and Deal with four.
