Mountain Area Christian Academy (MACA) third grade student Rozlynne Spry recently donated the $400 she had won during a fundraiser to the family of Fannin County wrestling coach Chuck Patterson who lost their home to a fire two weeks ago.
Spry’s family has first hand experience dealing with the aftermath of a fire because they lost their Blairsville business to a fire over a month ago.
“When my mom told me about a family who had a fire burn their house I knew I had to do it,” Spry said. “I wanted to donate the money I won in the MACA iPad raffle. My family just lost our dry cleaning business in a fire so I know what it is like to need help. I was begging my parents to take my money then, but they wouldn’t. I knew I wanted the Patterson family to be blessed with it so I donated it.”
According to MACA Administrator Steve Shamblin, the Pattersons have a child in the school’s Pre-K program and the school has started a fund for the family.
Shamblin said, “She came to her parents Monday night and said she knew the Patterson family was hurting like their family was hurting after the fire and she wanted to give her $400 prize money to the Pattersons.”
