Library announces packed January schedule

The following happenings will occur in January at the Fannin County Public Library:

•Story time at the library, Tuesday, January 14, 21 and 28. Their Youth Services Specialist, Catherine Burr, will be having story times Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Go for songs, rhymes, books and crafts. Ages 0-12 welcome, and all children must be accompanied by a guardian.

•Read with a Librarian, Thursday, January 9 and 16, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Want to boost your child’s confidence in reading? Sign them up for a 15 minute one-on-one session to read with Ms. Catherine. Bring your own books from home or, in advance, ask Ms. Catherine to pick out a few reads for your child. Please note that Thursday, January 16, the afternoon sessions will be from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate the Lego Club. 

•Baby Story Time, Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join for a baby story time for ages 0-18 months. This is a gentle, one-on-one time for baby and guardian to bond, explore age appropriate literature and learn new rhymes and songs that engage baby’s senses. Please make appropriate arrangements for baby’s siblings, as they are not able to provide a story time for them at this time. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

•Teens Graphic Novel Club, Saturday, January 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This month, they will be having their first ever Teens Graphic Novel Club meeting. January’s pick is the new Archie graphic novel by Mark Wade. The club will be meeting at the library.

•Tech 101, Wednesday, January 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sign up for a 30 minute one-on-one session to learn more about technology. If you have a specific question, need general help with a computer program or simply want to learn more about the technology around you, these sessions are for you. You will find the sign-up sheet at the front desk of the library.

•Lego Club, Thursday, January 16, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join for their monthly Lego Club. They will provide the Legos and you provide the creations. All of the pieces will be put on display for the following month.

•Pop-Up Story Time at Starbucks, Friday, January 17, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This month, to ring in the New Year, story time at Starbucks is all about things old and things new. The address is: 330 Progress Cir., Blue Ridge. No purchase necessary, all ages welcome and children must be accompanied by a guardian.

•Seed to Plant, Friday, January 24, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join for a lively discussion on starting your vegetable and flower gardens from seeds. Ashley A. Hoppers, County Extension Coordinator, will present information on outdoor versus indoor seed sowing, best seed practices and many more tips and tricks for seed growing. This is a free event.

•Maker Mondays, Monday, January 27, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Maker Mondays is a time for tweens and teens to bring their crafts, creativity and community spirit. Whether you already have a project you are working on or want to start one, Maker Mondays is a space to come and let your creativity flow and make new friends. If you do not have a project you are currently working on, they will provide crafts and supplies to get creative with. This event is for ages 9 to 18 and ages 9 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

•The Page Turners Library Book Club, the club will meet Wednesday, January 29, at 10:30 at the library.
