COVID-19 is increasing in Fannin County. In the last two weeks, 61 positive cases have been reported. The two weeks prior saw 39 people test positive.

While these numbers do not scream of an uncontrollable outbreak, they do tell us the situation is real, serious and growing.

Now is the time to take action. Keep doing all the common sense things everyone got used to when COVID-19 numbers were high: wash your hands, keep your distance, keep your fingers away from your face and, above all, if you’re sick stay home.

And there is another, important step – get the vaccine. No, it’s not a guarantee you won’t get sick, but if you do get sick the chances are it won’t be as bad. Just as important, it helps keep you from spreading the COVID-19 germ. And, most importantly, even if you aren’t worried about yourself, it helps you protect your family.

So here’s an incentive. The first 50 people who get the vaccine at either Georgia Mountains Health or Southern Drug company will get a free, one-year subscription to The News Observer. That’s right, we believe the vaccine is that important. Between the two locations, all three types of the vaccine are available. You can have your choice.

Just say “I saw it in the newspaper” when you get your first shot. The folks at either place will get your information, get it to us, and we’ll start your subscription.

But hurry, they’ll be keeping count of the first 50. And each is adding a drawing for Kiwanis Club/Mountain Valley Motors Rodeo tickets to help encourage you to visit.

Let’s set the bar for the rest of Georgia. More importantly, let’s do everything we can to keep everyone healthy.
