Harold Lee Herndon, age 77, of Blue Ridge, passed away December 10, 2022, at his home just a short distance from where he was born July 23, 1945, in Blue Ridge to the late Arnold and Arzela Campbell Herndon.

Harold retired from BB&T Bank formerly known as Fannin County Bank starting as a teller and working his way to Vice President and Branch Manager. He was very community oriented serving on the Fannin County Rescue Squad and as an Explorer Scout Advisor. He also served for fifteen years with the Blue Ridge City Council and at which time he was the Police Commissioner for the Blue Ridge City Police. Harold was a long time member of Temple Baptist Church but most recently had attended Hemptown Baptist Church. He was also always willing to help anyone with his many talents. His many talents and interest including woodworking, crafting furniture and other wood projects. Harold loved all animals and would always feed the wildlife and stray animals in the neighborhood.

Harold is also preceded in death by his brother, Jack Arnold Herndon.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Herndon of the home; nephews and nieces, Carl and Debbie Forsman of Atlanta, Kimberly and Craig Widener of Carrolton, Georgia, Shelly and Charlie Mathis of Epworth, Georgia, and Brian and Bre Herndon of Morganton; sister-in-law, Martha and Bob Newman of Blue Ridge; brother-in-law, Mitchell and Cyndi McGill of Dunwoody, Georgia; as well as, many great nephews, great nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. David Whitener officiating.

Music was provided by Alisa Stanley, Brian Huffman and Kimberly, Craig and Khloe Widener. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Bryan Herndon, Charlie Mathis Jr., Carl Forsman, Justin Turner, Christian Widener and Bob Jordan. Honorary pallbearers were Jacob Forsman, Jonah Forsman, Steve Mull Jr., Jack Queen, Billy Tilley, James Edward McGill, former and current employees of Blue Ridge City Hall, and the Blue Ridge City Police Department.
