Douglas Gregory Nuelle, devoted father, grandfather, surgeon, veteran, and friend passed away in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sunday, December 18, 2022.

Douglas was born to Bernard and Marion Nuelle in St. Louis, Missouri, December 17, 1947.

He graduated from Southwest High School in 1966 before attending the University of Missouri in St. Louis and receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry as well as graduating summa cum laude. In 2002, he was awarded with the Distinguished Alumni Award from University of Missouri. Doug attended the School of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, from September, 1969, to June, 1973, where he was awarded his Doctorate of Medicine degree. For his orthopedic residency, Doug attended the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1976 until 1979.

Douglas served as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy from July 1974 through June 1976. He was stationed on board the USS Proteus AS-19, a nuclear submarine tender in Guam. His duties included running the hyperbaric oxygen chamber for all of Micronesia.

Douglas had a private orthopedic practice in Port Charlotte, Florida, for 20 years before moving to Blue Ridge and starting Blue Ridge Orthopedics, another private orthopedic practice that has flourished ever since.

Over the years, Doug has enjoyed a number of hobbies and activities. He enjoyed playing multiple musical instruments, some of which included banjo, guitar, bass, and piano. He loved sailing on the open ocean, traveling around the world, and creating small scale ship models. He regularly made trips to visit family and friends and never failed to come home with a new story and adventure to share.

Douglas is survived by his two children, Dylan Douglas Nuelle and Rebecca Diane Norman; two grandchildren, Caroline and William; his sister, Bernadine, and cousin, Margaret.

The Memorial Service in honor of Mr. Nuelle will be held Saturday, January 7, 2022, at 4 p.m. at the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, January 7, 2022, from 1 p.m. until the service hour of 4 p.m.

In his memory, donations can be made to the “Doug Nuelle Scholarship Fund,” at FCHS Band, 360 Rebel Circle, Blue Ridge, Georgia. This scholarship will be in support of Fannin County High School students pursuing an education in the field of Music/Performing Arts.
