Mr. Charles “Benny” Messer, age 76, of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He was born on January 25, 1946, in Blue Ridge, to the late William Messer and Ruby Bell Messer.

Benny was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had been attending McCaysville Gospel Tabernacle. He worked for a number of years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and with Messer Moving. Benny loved the Lord. He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing, especially NASCAR.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tammy Sue Anderson; brothers, Billy Messer, Bob Messer, Barry Messer and Richard Messer; and sisters, Barbara Reichert, Brenda Minick and Linda Stiles.

Benny is survived by his wife, Patsy Messer; daughter, Melissa Chapman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Buck and Shirley Messer and Danny and Glenda Messer; sisters, Deborah Gravely and Joy Messer; grandchildren, Michael Messer, Josh Chapman, Jesse Chapman and Matthew Chapman; and great-grandson, Micah Messer.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Blue Ridge Chapel with the Rev. James Minick and the Rev. Leonard Hunter officiating.

Interment followed in the Macedonia Church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donnie Foster, Kenneth Foster, Timmy Messer, Josh Chapman, Jesse Chapman, and Matthew Chapman. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Messer and Micah Messer.
