Middle school runners shine at state

Several Fannin County Middle School Track & Field athletes went up against the highest level of competition from around Georgia at the Middle School Track & Field State Championships Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25.

Elizabeth Evans placed 18th out of over 80 competitors in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 17.80 and 14 out of over 60 competitors in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 51.73.

Jamel Johnson ran a personal record time of 5:32.79 in the 1600 meter run and placed 29 out of 93 runners in the 3200 meter run with a personal time of 11:30.47. Johnson was the second fastest sixth grader in this event.

Oakley Baker competed in the 200 meter dash and 400 meter dash. Baker placed 32 out of over 100 runners in the 400 meter dash with a personal record time of 1:04.11 and was the third fastest sixth grader in this event.

Lila Roof competed in the 800 meter run and the 1600 meter run. Roof placed 49th out of over 100 runners in the 800 meter run with a personal record time of 2:43.13 and was the ninth fastest sixth grader in this event.

Jubilee Rittweger finished 50th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.34.

Aubrey Tapia cleared 4 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, tying her personal record.
