Lady Rebels defeat Pickens, Gordon Ctrl.

The Fannin County High School Lady Rebels soccer team gave the home crowd a show when they defeated Gordon Central 8-0 March 10 and Pickens County March 12 in a PK shootout 4-3.

Against Pickens, Fannin trailed 1-0 at halftime. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. 

In the shootout, Natalie Middleton hit Fannin’s fifth kick for the win. Marinn Denton, Kensley Pickelsimer, Albany Cole and Annaleigh Cheatham all had successful kicks previously.

Pickens hit their first four, but on their fifth try, Fannin goalkeeper Bridgett Allen grabbed the kick before it could reach the net for the game save. Allen had 20 saves in the game.

Pickelsimer got the scoring off in the game with a goal at 6:32 in the first half with an assist from Cole.

Cheatham scored Fannin’s second goal at 12:29 in the second half. Pickelsimer hit Fannin’s third regulation goal at 9:59.

Against Gordon Central, Pickelsimer scored three goals in the first half for a 3-0 at the buzzer. She scored unassisted once and with assists from Denton and Addison Head. 

In the second half, Cheatham scored three goals. One was unassisted and two came with assists from Denton.

Denton had two goals in the second half, one unassisted and one on a penalty kick. Denton, Lily Williams and Golden had one steal apiece.

“I’m impressed with the girls and the work they have put in over the last two weeks. They have focused on the small things that needed some attention and in doing so, their efforts have had a big impact on our last two games. I am proud of what they have accomplished,” Head Coach Nancy Jessen said.
