The 18-5 Copper Basin Lady Cougars basketball team wrapped up the 2026 regular season with a 12-game winning streak by defeating Lookout Valley 67-11 at Copper Basin High School February 17.
“Great finish to the regular season and I was very happy to see the young players have a chance to really get after it and gain some confidence,” Head Coach Jeff Grimes said.
Kendra Deal got the scoring started with a three-pointer and set the tone for what was to come. What came was a 26-6 first quarter routing. Basin led 39-8 at halftime and 59-9 at the end of three quarters.
After Deal’s shot in the first quarter, Lady Cougars Kloie Ballew, Cora Kimsey, Riley Akens , Alexis Hyatt and Deal built a 20-0 lead through four and a half minutes.
Lady Cougars Madden Beach, Addison Hyatt, Kinsley Ross, Maleah Deal, Kallie Mosley and Laney Scoggins came off the bench halfway through the first quarter and continued the outstanding effort.
Deal scored seven points in the first quarter while Ballew had six, Maleah Deal, Akens and Addison Hyatt had three each, and Kimsey and Alexis Hyatt had two points each.
The second, third and fourth quarter action featured the same Lady Cougar dominance. While the offense scored points, it was the Basin defense that shined the whole game.
In the second quarter, Kimsey led the way with six points, Alexis Hyatt scored three, and Ross and Addison Hyatt each had two points.
In the fourth quarter, Beach had four points while Addison Hyatt and Alexis Hyatt each had two points.
For the game, Kimsey led with 11 points. Ballew and Kendra Deal each had 10 points. Alexis and Addison Hyatt each had nine points while Maleah Deal had six points, Beach had four, Akens and Scoggins had three each and Ross had two.
Defensively, every Lady Cougar had a rebound. Beach had eight, Addison Hyatt had five, while Ballew had four, and Maleah Deal, Ross, and Alexis Hyatt had three. Scoggins, Kendra Deal, Mosley, Kimsey and Akens had one.
Addison Hyatt led in steals with seven while Beach had five, Kimsey had four and Maleah Deal had three. Kimsey had four assists in the game while Alexis Hyatt had three.
The Lady Cougars hosted the District 5-A championship game February 23. Results from that game will appear in next weeks addition.
