Fannin posts big win over Towns Co.

The Fannin County High School girls soccer team won it’s second game of the season against Towns County by a huge margin 10-0 February 9 at home.

Fannin scored five goals in the first half and five in the second. The game time was shortened due to the mercy rule.

Junior Kensley Pickelsimer led the Lady Rebels with five goals. Four of them came in the first half at 36:05, 23:00, 20:27 and 5:25. Pickelsimer had one goal in the second half at 28:59. Junior Annaleigh Cheatham assisted her on three of those goals. Sophomore Marinn Denton assisted on one.

Cheatham had three goals. One shot came at 2:19 in the first half and two in the second half at 34:23 and 26:00.

Freshman Jadyn Humanes and Denton each scored one goal. Humanes’ goal came at 28:11 of the second period. She was assisted by Pickelsimer. Denton’s goal came at 13:15 in the second half.

Fannin had 17 shots on goal. Pickelsimer took five shots on goal. Gigi Torres had four while Cheatham had three, and senior Natalie Middleton, Humanes, freshman Lynnex Patterson, senior Jordon Golden, and freshman Jacqueline Cline each had one.

The Lady Rebel defense was superb. Sophomores Addison Head, Lily Williams, Izzy Torres and Tatiana Abrams-Castro,  junior Delmy Saqui-Sacul, freshman Sophia Carroll and Cline all had big takeaways.

“Freshman Jacqueline Cline has been impressive,” Head Coach Nancy Jessen said.

Goalkeeper senior Bridget Allen had one save.

“Bridget played amazing. She was very busy,” Jessen said.

Jessen said the Lady Rebels were able to move the ball down the field to the forwards up top very well against Towns County.  “They were able to shine. It just shows all the hard work of the girls,” Jessen said.

Jessen saw a few things the team needs to work on. “We’re just picking a few things and focusing on those and working, improving that and moving onto the next one,” she said.

In other action, Fannin earned it’s first win of the season February 17 with a home win 2-0 against Rabun County.
