McCaysville police officers have put Daniel Lee “Danny” Davis, 35, back in jail after he managed to slip away from an Atlanta hospital Christmas Day.
Lieutenant Billy Brackett said McCaysville officers received a tip that Davis was heading into McCaysville from the Blue Ridge area Wednesday, January 29. He was said to be heading to a house on Oliver Street.
McCaysville’s SWAT team was called out and began watching the house, Police Chief Mike Earley said.
When the car believed to be carrying Davis arrived, the officers surrounded the car and arrested Davis without incident.
The arrest resulted in three misdemeanor charges of obstruction of an officer, Brackett said.
Davis also faces a charge of escape resulting from the Christmas Day incident. He had been transported from the Fannin County Adult Detention Center to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. While being cared for by a doctor, he managed to slip away.
A warrant charging him with escape was taken out December 26, 2019.
Davis was first arrested and jailed December 2 when McCaysville officers arrested him on two felony warrants. He fled from officers and injured himself when he jumped over a staircase railing. That injury required back surgery.
After being released from the hospital, he was arrested by Fannin County Deputy Sheriff Dustin Carder December 19 according to Davis’ booking report.
He was arrested on a trio of new felony warrants out of McCaysville including arson in the first degree.
A hold was also placed on Davis by Cherokee County, North Carolina, authorities. It was while he was being held on these charges he slipped away from the Atlanta hospital where he had been taken by a Fannin County ambulance for treatment.
Davis’ booking report lists his home address as Hemlock Trail, Blue Ridge.
He is being held without bond.
