Fannin County Library schedule includes events for all ages

The following events will happen in February at the Fannin County Public Library:

•Storytime at the Library, Tuesday, February 4, 11, 18 and 25, at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Their Youth Services Specialist, Catherine Burr, will be having story times on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Go for songs, rhymes, books and crafts. Ages 0 to 12 welcome, and all children must be accompanied by a guardian.

•Read With a Librarian Thursday, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Help give your child confidence in their reading capabilities and sign them up for a 15 minute one-on-one session to read with Ms. Catherine. Bring your own books from home, or, in advance, ask Ms. Catherine to pick out a few reads for your child. Please note that Thursday, February 20, the afternoon sessions will be from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate the Lego Club.

•Tech 101, Wednesday, February 5 and 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sign up for a 30 minute one-on-one session to learn more about technology. If you have a specific question, need general help with a computer program, or simply want to learn more about the technology around you, these sessions are for you. You will find the sign-up sheet at the front desk of the library. By appointment only. 

•Tweens Book Club, Monday, February 3, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Tweens Book Club will be reading “Fortunately, the Milk” by Niel Gairman in the month of February before their next meeting in March. The Tweens Book Club will be meeting at Starbucks from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the first Monday of every month. The address is 330 Progress Circle, Blue Ridge. All club members must be accompanied by an adult. 

•Playtime at the Library, Friday, February 7, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Want an educational, engaging and fun environment to make new friends? Go join them for Playtime at the Library. This time is for children ages 0 to 12 to build community and have fun. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

•Movement Storytime, Monday, February 10, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This will be their first movement oriented Story time. Ms. Catherine will read dancing and movement books, there will be music and more. All children must be accompanied by an adult. 

•Baby Storytime, Saturday, February 15, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join them for a Baby Storytime for ages 0 to 18 months. This is a gentle, one-on-one time for baby and guardian to bond, explore age appropriate literature and learn new rhymes and songs that engage baby’s senses. Please make appropriate arrangements for baby’s siblings, as they are not able to provide a story time for them at this time. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

•Teens Graphic Novel Club, Saturday, February 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This month they will be reading “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” written by Ransom Riggs, and adapted to a graphic novel form by Cassandra Jean. The club will be meeting at the library.

•Maker Mondays, Monday, February 17, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you need a creative outlet, Maker Mondays is for you. Whether you have a project already in the works or want to begin a new one, they will provide space for you to unwind with a little crafting. For those who do not have projects from home to work on, they will provide supplies and project ideas for you to use. Please note, Maker Mondays is for ages 9 to 18, and ages 9 to 11 must be accompanied by an adult. 

•Lego Club, Thursday, February 20, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. They will provide the Legos. All of the pieces will be put on display for the following month.

•Pop-Up Storytime at Starbucks, Friday, February 21, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For half an hour, Ms. Catherine will read books that have everything to do with food. The address is 330 Progress Circle, Blue Ridge. No purchase necessary, all ages welcome, and children must be accompanied by a guardian.

•CHI Memorial Breathe Easy Lung Coach, Saturday, February 22, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. CHI Memorial Breathe Easy Lung Coach offers a mobile lung screening service. To make an appointment, call 423-495-5864. Walk-ins welcome.

•Cat in the Hat Event, Monday, February 24, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Cat in the Hat performance will begin at 4 p.m. There will be light refreshments served after the performance. 

•The Page Turners Book Club, Wednesday, February 26, at 10:30 a.m. Join them for a lively discussion on “Educated” by Tara Westover.

•Celebrate Arbor Day, Friday, February 27, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join Ashley Hoppers, county extension coordinator, as they celebrate Arbor Day by learning about the native trees. Free tree seedlings will be given out at the event.
