Abercrombies celebrate 73 married years

Hobert and Willie Abercrombie celebrated their wedding anniversary for the 73rd time Saturday, February 15.

The couple was married at the home of the Rev. Gus Hunt of Hemptown February 15, 1947 after meeting as employees of the Van Raalte Company in Blue Ridge.

They eventually became employees of Levi Strauss, where they both retired.

Hobert is also a World War II Navy Veteran who served in the South Pacific.

According to their niece, Sharon Kisselburg, they are lifelong members of O’Zion Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, where Hobert has served as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, with Willie always present with prayers of support.

The couple are blessed with two children, Troy (Wanda Caylor) Abercrombie of Dawsonville, Georgia and Theresa (Rick) Stepp of Loganville, Georgia.

They have “watched their blessings continue to grow” through their four grandchildren; Zachary (Jennifer) Stepp, Rachel Stepp (Greg) Howard, Marcus (Candy) Abercrombie and Hannah Abercrombie (Robby) Bell.

They also have eight great-grandchildren; Greyson, Mackenzie, Macayla and Addie Abercrombie, Ethan and Jonas Stepp, Jeremiah Bell, and Audrey Howard.

“Hobert and Willie, both now in their 90s, credit centering their marriage around God as the key to a long, lasting marriage,” Kisselburg said. “By the Word of the Lord, and by the word of their testimony the couple have overcome numerous adversities in the past 73 years, but never lost sight of the three elements to a successful marriage - faith, hope and unconditional love.”
