Shirley A. Padgett, age 83, of Blue Ridge, passed to her heavenly home February 24, 2022, in the Union County Nursing Home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Ducktown June 16, 1938, to the late Varlin and Sylvia Carringer Satterfield. Shirley was a caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was retired from Levi Strauss after over 30 years of service. She met many of her closest friends while working there and shared many funny and fond memories about her time working.

Shirley always lived life to the fullest and loved her family beyond measure. She and her late husband, Dennis, spent much of their time “loafering” around and there was no telling where they might end up while out and about. When you’d hear her say “we’re headed up the road,” you knew they were off for a Cherokee adventure. She and her husband enjoyed going to the auctions and dancing at the music parks. A fond memory by many of her grandchildren was when she would call just to talk or check in and leave the message “I didn’t want nothin” or “I was just calling to see what you were doing.”

Shirley never passed up an opportunity to ride out to the cemetery to visit her daughter’s and family’s graves, even if it was just to drive by. Though, she didn’t like to admit it at first, Shirley fell in love with her dog, Maggie, who served as her companion and comfort in the years following the passing of her husband. Shirley never met a stranger and will be deeply missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. She was the last of her six siblings. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Ray Padgett; and two children, Connie Claudette Brooks and Donna Kaye Davis.

Survivors include her son, Ronnie Jeff Chancey and wife Tammy, of Blue Ridge; step-son, William “Squeaky” Chancey, of Morganton; grandchildren, Fabian Baliles, Shanda Nicholson, both of Blue Ridge, Kristy Chancey Ware and Justin, of Mineral Bluff, Deeann Chancey Burkett and Josh, of Mineral Bluff, Kelly Davis Perenich and Neal, of Cumming, Georgia, Billy Chancey, and Noel Shields, both of Blue Ridge; great-grandchildren, Carson Burkett, Zack Nicholson, Tiffany Nicholson Amon, Kayla Baliles, Logan Burkett, Bralynn Ross, Joshua Burkett, Brayden Perenich, Tucker Ware and Kaydence Perenich; and several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 27, 2022, at 3 p.m. from the Akins-Cobb Chapel in Blue Ridge with Rev. Randy Hooper officiating. Music was provided by the Caylor Family. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Kenny “Porky” Rogers, Zachary Nicholson, Carson Burkett, Logan Burkett, Fabian Baliles, Billy Chancey and Joshua Burkett.
